What is the AMCA Air Moving and Conditioning Association?
The AMCA Air Moving and Conditioning Association is a not for profit organization that has been in existence since 1917. While AMCA performs a variety of functions, its most valuable purpose is the operation of numerous Certified Ratings Programs. In order to understand more about this organization, it is wise to understand more about these Certified Ratings Programs, what they are, what they encompass and why they are important.
A Certified Rating Program gives the buyer of an air conditioning system the peace of mind that comes with knowing that the published performance data from the manufacturer has been verified and tested. Various air system components can have Certified Ratings tests performed in the following specific areas: air leakage, air leakage and performance, air performance, air performance wind driven rain, airflow measurement station, CFM/Watt air performance, positive pressure ventilators, prefabricated silencer, sound and air performance and water penetration. The Certified Rating Programs include the following components: acoustical duct silencers, airflow measurement stations, air curtain units, blowers, circulating fans, dampers, evaporative coolers, fans, louvers, shutters and more. As you can see, the areas covered and the tests performed are very comprehensive.
Manufacturers who want their items tested under the Certified Rating Program must submit their items to a AMCA certified lab. The lab must perform tests according to national and even international standards. Additional lab tests are performed every three years to ensure ongoing quality and adherence to standards. Any manufacturer who makes an item that falls under the AMCA scope of service can submit their item for testing. Doing so gives consumers more confidence in purchasing items from the manufacturer. People trust the CRP designation and are more likely to buy a product that bears one as opposed to a product that does not.
The AMCA Air Moving and Conditioning Association is an important part of the industry. Membership is available for any individual or business whose products fall under the scope of those tested by the association. There are many benefits to membership, which include industry representation, member discounts, technical seminars, engineering conferences, market groups, marketing statistics and more. If you want to learn more about this association and how you can apply for membership, the AMCA web site is a wealth of helpful information.
